Jasmin Wagner, ES & Peer Support

IMG_3844.JPG

I serve as both an EAGALA certified equine specialist (ES) and a RICB certified peer support specialist (CPRS) on the Medicine Horse team, officially as of 2024.

As an ES, I partner with the horses and mental health professionals to hold space for peoples experiences, learning, and growth. My main responsibility is to monitor and maintain physical safety and to ensure the horses are equipped and able to facilitate their great work.

As a peer support specialist, I pull from my own life and learning to connect with, support, and empower people's journeys with mental/behavioral health challenges and substance use, helping to affirm and actualize recovery and progress.

I got into eco and equine assisted therapy (nature and horses) long before I knew a name for it, back when it was just feelings of safety and freedom to think and feel and express myself how I needed to without fear of judgment or rejection and I could reflect, back when the peace of moments with creatures much larger and much smaller than I, were my only repreve from an unstable existence and I could 'peace by peace' find the parts of me that were lost and hiding, fill the spaces left inside from needs unmet, and connect with the wisdom in the natural world around me. I found understanding, I found healing, and I continue to learn and grow and I wish for everyone searching to encounter that for themselves. This is what the team at Medicine Horse offers.

What is a Peer?

Peer support describes a professional, non clinical, therapeutic relationship based on similar experiences and being diagnosed with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both. By sharing lived experience and practical guidance, peer support workers offer a level of acceptance, understanding, and validation not found in many other professional relationships and help people to develop their own goals, create strategies for self-empowerment, and take concrete steps towards building fulfilling, self determined lives.

This is NOT A CLINICAL SERVICE and is not meant to provide standalone support for those in need of a clinical mental health professional
